Apollo 7 was the seventh mission in the Apollo Space program and the first manned Apollo mission with a crew of three astronauts – Walter M. Schirra, Jr., Commander, Donn F. Eisele, Command Module Pilot and R. Walter Cunningham, Lunar Module Pilot.
Apollo 7 launched on 11th October 1968 11:02:45am EST from Cape Kennedy. Its mission was to test the performance of the newly designed command module.
The mission lasted a total of 10 Days, 20 hours making a total of 163 orbits of the Earth.
Apollo 7 splashed down in the Atlantic southeast of Bermuda on the morning of 22nd October 1968. The mission was deemed successful paving the way for the future lunar missions.
